Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will return to competition this week in the BMW International Open, a classic in the European Tour (tournament which will be celebrating its 30-year anniversary), held at the Golfclub Eichenried. The golfer from Madrid will go into the tournament at his best moment in the season, after having made three top 25s in his last three tournaments.
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño did not make it to the US Open, third big Major of the season, in the sectional qualifier held at Walton Heath (Surrey, England), a grueling 34-hole challenge in just one day. The Spanish golfer turned in two solid cards with 71 and 70 shots on the Old Course and the New Course at the British golf club, but his final total of -5 came up short in order to seal a spot in the top fourteen, which were granted a golden ticket to this Major.
The Belgian Knockout, conquered today by Italian golfer, Guido Migliozzi, did not end the best way for Gonzalo Fernández Castaño, eliminated on Saturday in the second round of medal match play after going head-to-head with Scottish golfer, David Law. However, in reality, it was another fantastic week of golf, and a job well done by the Spanish golfer. Mostly because of Gonzalo’s performance on Thursday and Friday in stroke play, in which he finished in fifth place with an accumulated total of -8 after handing in cards of 65 and 69 shots at the Rinkven International Golf Club (Amberes, Belgium).
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-6) got off to a fantastic start in the Belgian Knockout, where the first two rounds are stroke play, and medal match play on nine holes throughout the weekend. The first objective is to get into the top 64 during the first two days, in order to make it to the final roster in the head to head match play. The Spanish golfer has made a lot of headway, and is currently in second place, two shots away from the leader, Swedish golfer, Anton Karlsson (-8), with a six-shot margen above the cut line, which is situated at PAR.
Another test for Gonzalo Fernández Castaño in the Belgian Knockout, after having passed the exam with flying colors in the British Masters and the Made in Denmark. Now, the Spanish golfer, with a renewed sense of confidence in a much more refined version of his game, is up for the challenge of a new format this weekend, the first two rounds are stroke play, with the objective of making it to the top 64 in order to make it to head to head play, which will happen on Saturday and Sunday in medal match play format.
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-5) shot a 69 in the final round of the Made in Denmark, finishing in 18th place, which helps him to continue to move up in the Race to Dubai rankings. The golfer from Madrid had a solid week of gold on Danish grounds, and he's now got two top 25s in a row under his belt in the European Tour, a clear indication that he's getting his game back.
