The British Masters can officially be considered a possible turning point in the season for Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño. The golfer from Madrid shot a 72 in the last round of the tournament held at the Hillside GF, and he finished with a total of -7, in 25th place.
These are Gonzalo's best results of the season, and second best in almost one year of competition. It was precisely the fifth place he finished with in the Andalucía Valderrama Masters that allowed him to maintain the card this past October, which is the only finale that trumps this one.
Apart from the score, which is important to help build up confidence, the best part is that he played all four rounds at par or below par. He didn't lose any of the duels with the British course in the entire week. This hasn't happened since the Portugal Masters last year. In Valderrama, he didn't lose any of the duels with the course either, but the tournament was cut back to three rounds.
As far as today's round, the Spanish golfer was able to take full advantage of the par 5s. His three birdies came on the long holes, the only one that got away was the 17th hole.
Without a doubt, this week should serve as a bout of confidence, indeed, for Gonzalo, whose next tournament is the Made in Denmark within two weeks from now.
