Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-6) got off to a fantastic start in the Belgian Knockout, where the first two rounds are stroke play, and medal match play on nine holes throughout the weekend. The first objective is to get into the top 64 during the first two days, in order to make it to the final roster in the head to head match play. The Spanish golfer has made a lot of headway, and is currently in second place, two shots away from the leader, Swedish golfer, Anton Karlsson (-8), with a six-shot margen above the cut line, which is situated at PAR.
Gonzalo made a total of seven birdies and just one bogey thanks to the perfect combination of three ingredients: his game from tee to green is very solid, a high level of accuracy on the putt from all distances and, lastly, a touch of luck on the few delicate situations he encountered throughout the round. For example, on the 13th hole, he was able to drop the ball without a penalty after a bad first shot.
The golfer from Madrid had already noted how he'd liked the Rinkven International Golf Club (Amberes, Belgium) since the moment he set foot on it last Monday, and those good vibes turned into excellent results, which on the other hand, is just more proof that his game and his confidence are on the rise.
