Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-5) finished with his best score yet in this 2019 season in the second round of the Kenya Open with a 66, which skyrocketed him to the top ten in the rankings, and to one of the last games on Saturday. Its true that the leader, South African golfer Luis Jager (-12), holds a significant advantage over the rest of the competitors, but with 36 holes left to play, it's still possible to be in the running for the fight for the win.
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (PAR) came through in the first round of the Kenya Open, which started off as an uphill battle. The Spanish golfer shot a 71, with an excellent display of patience and perseverance, making for an unlikely comeback on the back nine at the Karen Country Club, coming off a partial score on the first nine holes of +4.
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño is prepped and ready to compete in the Kenya Open, with a certain optimism, despite the fact that things didn’t goes as planned in Oman, nor Qatar, where he did not make either cut. “Last week, in Qatar, I was hitting the ball much better than reflected in the final score, but I wasn’t on point with the putter, so I’m ready to test it out here, in Kenya, on a very interesting, old-fashioned course, with small greens and narrow fairways in between trees. I feel good, and in good spirits”, he says.
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+1) shot a 72 n the second round of the Qatar Masters, fighting to the very last hole to make the cut, but he fell just short of the goal in the end. The Spanish golfer went to tee off on the 9th hole, par 5, last one of the round (he started on the 10th), one birdie away from making the cut and playing over the weekend. However, his fate was sealed with a bogey.
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+1) finished the first round of the Qatar Masters with a total of 73 shots, somewhat inconsistent, but a job well done nonetheless, in difficult playing conditions with lots of wind, placing him at one shot short of the cut line. The rankings are very tight at the moment, with the leaders at -5 (there are more than one hundred golfers within six shots of each other).
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño is trying to move forward as quickly as possible after what happened in Oman last week. His game wasn’t on point and, on top of that, an untimely pain in his foot made things even more complicated, to the point which he had to withdraw from the tournament, mainly to avoid exacerbating the injury.
