Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-3) finished off the third round of the Made in Denmark with what was probably his best round of golf of the year. The golfer from Madrid shot a 67, four under par for the day, amidst very complicated weather conditions due to the wind, his score coming in at second best of the day, only second to Lee Westwood's score of 66 shots.
Thanks to his outstanding performance, he's now six shots away from the leader (he was nine shots away at the start of the day), Austrian golfer, Bernd Wiesberger (-9), and just on the brink of the top ten of the tournament, after moving up almost fifty spots in the rankings.
The Spanish golfer took advantage of his options on the greens, such as the three par 5s, for example, on the Dutch Himmerland Golf course, and he had a lot of solid second shots, finishing off an action-packed round with seven birdies and three bogeys. It's evident that today, he improved in all aspects of the game and, even more importantly, he continues to prove to himself that the changes he's been assimilating in his swing are starting to produce good results.
Gonzalo will play in the fourth and final round, with a remote chance to take home the win (he would need an even better round than today's), but knee-deep in the fight nonetheless. He'll play starting at 11:20 am (same time in Spain on the peninsula) with Richard McEvoy, the same golfer he played alongside in the third round.
