The Belgian Knockout, conquered today by Italian golfer, Guido Migliozzi, did not end the best way for Gonzalo Fernández Castaño, eliminated on Saturday in the second round of medal match play after going head-to-head with Scottish golfer, David Law. However, in reality, it was another fantastic week of golf, and a job well done by the Spanish golfer. Mostly because of Gonzalo’s performance on Thursday and Friday in stroke play, in which he finished in fifth place with an accumulated total of -8 after handing in cards of 65 and 69 shots at the Rinkven International Golf Club (Amberes, Belgium).
Thus, it was another step forward with the third consecutive top 25 in his latest performances (he finished in Belgium in 20th place), so things couldn’t be better going into the US Open sectional qualifier, held on June 3rd at Walton Heath, 36 holes in one day on the Old Course and New Course, a grueling and demanding test, just like every year.
Gonzalo will arrive to the course in London with lots of enthusiasm, willing to fight for his spot in what will be the twentieth Major of his career (those who finish within the top 15 will earn the golden ticket to Pebble Beach). The golfer from Madrid will play in the first round starting at 9:18 am alongside German golfer, Marcel Siem (10:18 in Peninsular Spain).
