Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+2) shot a 69 in the second round of the Hong Kong Open, and thus, did not make the cut, despite the notable improvement with respect to the first round. In fact, he missed out on playing this weekend at the Hong Kong Golf Club by just one shot, due to the fact that the scores were better in general, and in perfect playing conditions.
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+3) shot a 73 in the first round of the Honma Hong Kong Open, placing him far from the head of the tournament (eight shots from the leaders, Rai, Scrivener and Miyazato), although he still hasn’t exhausted all of his options, seeing as how the cut could be established on Friday somewhere around a score of +2, or even +3.
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will kick off the 2019 season today, coming off last season’s thrilling, close finale where he managed to save the rights to play in the complete European Tour with a solid performance in the Andalucía Valderrama Masters. The stage is set in the Honma Hong Kong Open, first tournament on the 2019 European Tour calendar, which he’ll be attending for the first time in his career.
Mission accomplished: Gonzalo Fernández Castañop (-4) did the math in the days prior to the Andalucía Valderrama Masters, and thus made it his goal to finish within the top 15 of the tournament, which would secure him a spot among the top 116 in the Race to Dubai, and ultimately allow him to maintain the rights to play in the European Tour 2019. In the end, he passed the test with flying colors, finishing in an astounding fifth place, and even brushing up against the possibility of taking home the victory at certain points.
It’s final now: the Andalucía Valderrama Masters will finish on Monday, after two suspensions on Sunday, the first one for an hour, and a second definitive one, due to the electric storm that struck down on the course. At the moment, Gonzalo Fernández Castaño has a partial score of -2 on eight holes, and an accumulated score of -6, which puts him in third place, four shots from the leader, Sergio García.
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-4) turned in one of the best cards of the second round, which was finally concluded after all the problems brought on by the bad weather. He shot a 68, which shot him up in the rankings, and has even opened up the possibility to win in the final round. The Andalucía Valderrama Masters will be played in 54 holes in the end, and thus, there is only one more round, which we be played this Sunday if the rain and electric storms permit.
