Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño was unlucky with his tee time in the Omega European Masters. The golfer from Madrid got the short end of the stick. He played in the afternoon, just when the clouds moved in, the temperature dropped and it started raining. The playing conditions were much more difficult, going from the perfect day with a surplus of birdies to a fight for survival.
Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño will play in the Omega European Masters starting this Thursday. The golfer from Madrid is back to the European Tour and revisiting the second major goal of the season. The next month and a half will determine whether or not he’ll maintain the European Tour card, a mission that’s only halfway complete due to the difficulty of alternating this tour with the Web.com Tour.
Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño dropped out of the race to the PGA Tour card finish line. He shot a 72 in the final round of the WinCo Foods Portland Open, which bumped him down to 60th place in the rankings, leaving him just outside the margin of the top 75 of the Web.com Tour order of merit. Thus, he will not be competing in the Tour Finals for the first time in his career.
Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-2) shot a 73 in the third round of the WinCo Foods Portland Open, and has lots of work to do in the last tournament of the regular Web.com Tour calendar. So much so, that he’s even put his qualification for the Tour Finals in jeopardy, the last opportunity to earn back the PGA Tour card.
Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-6) needs a hail Mary this week, he knows it, and he’s already started the mission off quite well. The Spanish golfer shot a 65 in the first round of the WinCo Foods Portland Open, and is now in the top 5 of the tournament.
Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño will play in the WinCo Foods Portland Open starting this Thursday, Web.com Tour tournament which will bring the regular season of the American silver division tour to an end. In other words, this Sunday, when the tournament finishes, we’ll already know which golfers will earn the PGA Tour card for next year, and who will at least get a second chance to try again in the Tour Finals.
