Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (PAR) made the cut in the British Masters after shooting a 72 in the second, very difficult round at the Walton Heath. The playing conditions were tough, but the golfer from Madrid stuck it out, and ended up tying the duel with the course and managed to maintain his spot at the top of the rankings.
Gonzalo, patient and composed in the midst of the storm, made three birdies and three pars, and climbed in the rankings up to twenty-first place, still a lot to be done on British terrain. He is currently two shots away from the top ten and eight from the leader, Eddie Pepperell.
Gonzalo’s created some nice opportunities for this weekend in a tournament that he has already won on one occasion in 2008, which is to his advantage, even though it was on another course. The Madrid native is still fighting to maintain the card. A good score this week would be a huge step forward. A top ten could be enough to secure the complete rights for next year. He is still on track to reach his goal.
