Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (PAR) started the first round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, Rolex Series tournament in the European Tour, with a 72, along with a bad taste in his mouth after the last few holes. The golfer from Madrid, amidst some important changes in his swing alongside his new coach, Jamie Gough, was off to a very solid round with three holes to go and a notable partial score of -3, only to finish with a double bogey and a bogey on the 7th and 9th holes, and unable to make the birdie on the 8th hole, par 5, one of the simplest holes on the course, thus, radically tainting the score and spoiling a job well done throughout most of the round.
It was past five in the afternoon in Abu Dhabi when Gonzalo Fernández Castaño left the driving range at the Arabic course. He had just finished a full day of work after more than eight hours, with a quick break for lunch. His sweat-laden polo said it all.
Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño did not make the cut in the Alfred Dunhill Championship, held this week on the Leopard Creek Country Club course in South Africa. The golfer from Madrid shot a 79 in a second round to forget, and fell very short of the goal.
Tough day in the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa. The first round was dictated by the wind, which made things really difficult on the golfers. Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño got himself in quite a bind, but managed to hand in a well-deserved card under par with a total of 71 shots at the end of the day.
Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño will lay a long year of competition to rest this week at Leopard Creek, after having played in an impressive total of 34 tournaments. He's never played so much in 365 days as a professional, with the added pressure of having done it in two separate tours, crossing the Atlantic frequently to play in the European Tour and the Web.com Tour.
Gonzalo Fernández Castaño did not make the cut in the South Africa Open, held this week at the Randpark Golf Club. The course in Johannesburg didn’t cut the golfer from Madrid a break, no room to breathe. Long, tough week. Two birdies in 36 holes, two rounds over par and a total score of +5.
