Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño did not make the cut in the Alfred Dunhill Championship, held this week on the Leopard Creek Country Club course in South Africa. The golfer from Madrid shot a 79 in a second round to forget, and fell very short of the goal.
And thus, Gonzalo has closed the 2018 year out. Evidently, it wasn’t how he’d hoped. His mini tour in South Africa was a rocky one. Today, things started to go downhill on the 7th hole with a painful double bogey, but he continued to fight to make the cut. A birdie on the 12th hole put him back in the game, but a triple bogey on the 15th sealed his fate.
Now, it’s time to rest and recharge his batteries after a long, tough year. Keep in mind that Gonzalo has never played in more tournaments than he did in 2018. Be that as it may, the outcome is positive, after having earned the European Tour card back with a solid performance in the Andalucía Valderrama Masters. The next tournament will be in Abu Dhabi in mid-January.
