Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño will lay a long year of competition to rest this week at Leopard Creek, after having played in an impressive total of 34 tournaments. He's never played so much in 365 days as a professional, with the added pressure of having done it in two separate tours, crossing the Atlantic frequently to play in the European Tour and the Web.com Tour.
It was a tough journey, but it was worth it, mostly due to his incredible performance in the Valderrama, which allowed him to maintain the rights to play in Europe next year. Now, it's time to close the Leopard Creek with the golden seal.
Gonzalo will play in the Alfred Dunhill Championship, the last tournament of the 2018 European Tour. The idea is to put the icing on the cake with a good performance that will carry on into the next season. It's the fourth tournament since he started in Hong Kong, and it hasn't been the smoothest ride, having made one cut and a 44th place as his best results.
A good week in the Park Kruger in South Africa will help him get through Christmas and the new year 2019 with an even bigger smile on his face.
