Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-4) finished his participation in the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open with a round of 73 shots, losing some ground in the rankings, finishing in 44th place. However, with six holes left to play, things were different, and looking much better for the Spanish golfer, who finally seemed to have found a way to get a very low score on the Four Seasons Golf Club at Anahita course...
In effect, Fernández Castaño was making a comeback at a good pace on the scoreboard thanks to a magnificent partial score of -4 on the first ten holes, to the point where the possibility of a spot in the top ten started to become a reachable goal. He would have had to continue making birdies, and that was his focus when he went to tee off on the 13th hole, par 5, seemingly the perfect occasion to improve his position in the rankings, but he ended up finishing with a double bogey and very low morale.
In one way or another, the par 5s have been giving the Spanish golfer trouble along the way this week, who ended up with an accumulated total of PAR on these holes; a score far from the -11, for example, shot by the tournament leader on these long holes, American golfer Kurt Kitayama.
