Third round of the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open and another step forward for Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-5), who shot a 70, two under par for the day, which bumped him up fourteen spots in the rankings. However, this score was not enough to get himself into the fight for the win, seeing as how he’ll start the last round eleven shots away from the leaders, Harding and Kitayama, an unsalvageable distance.
The Madrid native, the same as on Friday, had the round under control, with just one bogey, and proved himself to be resilient in his game around the green, having saved some tricky situations. His game from tee to green continues to lack its full potential, although today, he was able to take more advantage of the par 5s (two birdies), which he couldn’t quite reach in the previous rounds.
Its seems as though the Spanish golfer, who in the days prior to the tournament, didn’t manage to uncover those good vibrations, went from less to more, but he’s still got a few tricks up his sleeve, which could allow him to accumulate a good handful of points, the first he’ll take home in the 2019 European Tour season.
Gonzalo will play on Sunday with the young Austrian golfer, Matthias Schwab, at 6:35 in the morning (Spanish time). He’ll be starting out at five shots from the top ten of the tournament, a difficult goal, but which is still within reach if he manages to pull off that big round that he’s been skillfully and patiently waiting for.
