Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+1) finished the first round of the Qatar Masters with a total of 73 shots, somewhat inconsistent, but a job well done nonetheless, in difficult playing conditions with lots of wind, placing him at one shot short of the cut line. The rankings are very tight at the moment, with the leaders at -5 (there are more than one hundred golfers within six shots of each other).
Thus, the Spanish golfer still has room to work with to achieve any goal he sets his mind to really, although right now his immediate goal is to gain his confidence back and get the good vibes flowing again that he had on the driving range just before the start of the tournament. Making the cut on Friday and being able to play in all four rounds would be a great start, and to do so, he’ll more than likely need a score under par in the second round.
In that sense, it’s almost obligatory to take better advantage of the par 5s at the Doha Golf Club, a portion of the game in which he was not so fortunate in the first round (he had a partial score of PAR on the long holes of the Qatari course). Fernández Castaño will play on Friday at 11:50 local time (9:50 Spanish time).
