Gonzalo Fernández Castaño is trying to move forward as quickly as possible after what happened in Oman last week. His game wasn’t on point and, on top of that, an untimely pain in his foot made things even more complicated, to the point which he had to withdraw from the tournament, mainly to avoid exacerbating the injury.
His foot is in perfect condition now in Qatar, and he’s ready for a good week of golf, and to compete with the best in all four rounds in the Qatar Masters at the Doha Golf Club, which is, without a doubt, the Spanish golfer’s favorite course in the Persian Gulf.
Last year, Fernández Castaño got fourth place in this tournament, all four rounds below seventy shots, finishing with one of the best weeks of competition he's had in the past few years, and he even made it through to the fight for the win on the last nine holes on Sunday, ending up just three shots away from the winner, British golfer Eddie Pepperell. The weather forecast says there’s quite a bit of wind in store, very common on this course, but does not bother the golfer from Madrid.
He'll play in the first round alongside German golfer, Max Kieffer and South African golfer, George Coetzee, starting at 7:15 am local time (5:15 am Spanish time).
