Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-2) finished the Saudi International with a 71 in the fourth and last round, one over par, which caused him to get bumped down a few spots in the rankings to 44th place. Another solid round for Gonzalo as far as his long game, however, it was also another round in which his errors cost him, with four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.
Despite everything, and delving in deeper than the final score, the Spanish golfer’s assessment is more focused on his performance with the new swing and the evolution of the work he’s been doing with his new coach, Jamie Gough. And in that sense, Gonzalo is starting feel more and more comfortable on the course and, just as he stated himself, “starting to have a better understanding of my own swing, and why and where the errors occur”.
The golfer from Madrid will travel back home now, to Miami, where he’ll continue to work hard on the new technique after a few days’ rest, and he’ll be back in action in February, in the second part of the desert portion of the European Tour in Oman and Qatar, most likely followed by the Kenya Open.
