Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will participate in the Barracuda Championship at the Montreux Golf and Country Club (Reno, Nevada), second category tournament of the PGA Tour due to the fact that it coincides with the World Golf Championship, but which could be of the utmost importance for the Spanish golfer in his fight to maintain the rights to play in the PGA Tour. And let’s not kid ourselves: no tournament in the American tour is truly second category when taking the quality and caliber of the golfers into consideration.
Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño has concluded his participation in the Quicken Loans National, PGA Tour tournament held at the Robert Trent Jones GC in Virginia with a round of 75 shots and a total of three under par. Not so great of a Sunday session, namely on two holes in particular, which made him fall back to 52º place in the rankings.
It was tough for Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño to get on track in the third round of the Quicken Loans National. He wasn’t sharp off the tee, but it wasn’t a problem when it came time to turn in a reputable card of 69 shots, leaving him in 21st place, with a total of seven under par and four shots from the top ten.

The Spanish golfer made his fourth consecutive cut with room to spare, although he has gone down slightly in the rankings compared to Thursday. He currently stands at 19º place with a total of five under par, three shots from the top ten and six from the leader, Ryo Ishikawa.
Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño began his participation in the Quicken Loans National this Thursday and shot a 66, which goes to show that no matter how tough the challenge, the Spanish golfer is always prepared. The Quicken Loans is one of the last three bullets left in Gonzalo’s cartridge to maintain the 2016 PGA Tour card. He needs to do it well, and a round like yesterday’s at the Robert Trent Jones GC in Gainesville helps a lot. It’s just the first step, but it was solid and resolute.
