Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño shot a 70 in the second round of The Greenbrier Classic and made the cut with an accumulated total of three under par. Not only did he make the cut, but also has many options due to the fact that the differences in the rankings are slight. The Madrid native is four shots from the top ten and just six shots from the leaders with 36 holes left to play.
The second round of The Old White TPC in West Virginia was pretty different from that of Thursday. It rained steadily and there weren't as many birdies. Even so, Gonzalo played well from tee to green, a solid game and would have been able to turn in an even better card had his putt accompanied him as he would have liked. He only let three putts get out from under his fingertips on the first nine, for par or birdie, from less than one and a half meters away.
More important than the statistics is that Gonzalo was able to remain calm and to have patience enough to turn things around. He made his way through the cut with two consecutive birdies (3 and 5) when it seemed like the round was about to slip away from him. Now he has 36 holes ahead to build up a good weekend of golf.
