Gonzalo Fernández Castaño starts his participation in the Quickens Loans National, the first of the last three opportunities he'll have on the regular PGA Tour calendar to turn the tight, difficult situation around.
The Madrid native will be starting at 1.28 pm (7.28 pm Spanish Peninsular time) together with Erik Compton and Charlie Beljan on the course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club (Gainesville, Virginia), which is really tough due to the rainfall from the last couple days, a condition which could continue throughout the first round.
Gonzalo's margin to work with is not very big, due to the fact that he currently stands at 172º in the FedEX Cup and needs to reach at least 125º to be eligible for the playoffs and to save the 2016 PGA Tour card. In other words, after having done the math: second place would completely fix his situation and third would leave him really close to reaching his objective, with two tournaments left to play afterward to seal the deal.
In his favor, the upwards trend demonstrated in his latest performance are at play, not far from being able to pull off that perfect week.
