Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-2) shot a 73 in the third round of the WinCo Foods Portland Open, and has lots of work to do in the last tournament of the regular Web.com Tour calendar. So much so, that he’s even put his qualification for the Tour Finals in jeopardy, the last opportunity to earn back the PGA Tour card.
With his score this Saturday, Gonzalo, according to the official Web predictions, could possibly get bumped down to 77th place in the rankings, which means he would not make the top 75, those who will play in the Tour Finals.
The golfer from Madrid has complicated his situation, but the good thing is that there is still time to turn things around. He needs a big day on Sunday for a comeback, and to forget about stats and whether or not he makes the top 75. Even if he doesn’t have a good round, depending on the rest of the scores, he could still have the option to reach the top 75, but it’s always best to only depend on yourself. Thus, Gonzalo has no option other than to have a big Sunday at the Pumpkin Ridge in Oregon.
