Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño was unlucky with his tee time in the Omega European Masters. The golfer from Madrid got the short end of the stick. He played in the afternoon, just when the clouds moved in, the temperature dropped and it started raining. The playing conditions were much more difficult, going from the perfect day with a surplus of birdies to a fight for survival.
Gonzalo did not get off to a bad start considering the playing conditions. He shot a 71, one over par. He managed to stay afloat, considering only twenty golfers shot under par in the afternoon session.
Gonzalo made three birdies and four bogeys in an exercise of balance. He needed to bring out the best version of his short game to get through the round, and to keep the option open to save the cut this Friday. At the moment, he’s one shot away from his objective, although it will depend in big part on the playing conditions tomorrow. The leader is currently at -6.
