Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-4) started the Ellie Mae Classic off with a fury, with a 66 in the first round, leaving him at just three shots away from the leaders, one of which is the other Spanish golfer in the tournament, Samuel del Val.
The moment that stood out with flying colors for the golfer from Madrid was, without a doubt, the hole in one he made on the 6th hole (15th of the round, started off on the 10th) from around 170 meters out. An outstanding finishing touch to a round that had turned into an uphill battle right from the start with a bogey on the first hole.
The Spanish golfer did well off the tee, and he just missed the top ten of the tournament due to a matter of small details, although the final score leaves all doors and options open.
Gonzalo will play in the second round at TPC Stonebrae (Hayward, California) at 7:52 am (4:52 pm Spanish time) with magnificent playing conditions, according to the weather forecast, not a trace of wind and warm temperatures, but mild.
