Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño

There was a key moment during Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño's first round in The McGladrey Classic, which started today at the Seaside Course in Georgia. It happened on the 10th...

The Spanish golfer came out to make a painful bogey on the 9th, the first hole of the day. He started two under, missed his second green of the morning and from the first rough cut, he was unable to recover. He let a putt slip away for par from less than four meters away.

This bogey hit him hard and just after, he made a double bogey on the 10th, even more harsh. He didn't make the fairway nor the green, and he made three putts from around five and a half meters out. Moments like that can define a round of golf, even an entire tournament. Anyone can lose control of the round in a situation like that, but Gonzalo was able to bounce back, come up for air, put on his game face and strike for the attack.

He made two amazing birdies on the 12th and the 16th, the first one he landed from around eleven meters out and the second leaving the ball after his shot from the fairway just five meters away from the hole. He also had a good option on the 14th, from two meters away, and he only made one other bogey on the 13th.

Gonzalo was able to get a grip in time this round and he ended up taking down the veteran Seaside Course even after the double bogey. Finally, a round of 71 for the Spanish golfer, which temporarily places him in the cut and with many options open for tomorrow.
