Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-16) crossed the finish line of the marathon with a smile on his face. And well deserved at that. Six days and 108 holes later, the Spanish golfer managed to finish in the top 25 of the Final of the European Tour Qualifying School, and thus earned the rights to play next season. Gonzalo is beyond excited.
His performance in this Final was a solid demonstration of determination and perseverance, along with patience and experience. Thirteen years have gone by, but it feels as though it were yesterday when he played (and made it through) the first and only time in the European Tour Qualifying School.
Gonzalo shot a 68 to finish off the Final on the Lakes Course at Lumine Golf, in a round that exuded control and strength. He didn’t make any bogeys and landed three birdies, the last of which was on the 18th hole for the finishing touch to a fantastic week, the icing on the cake.
Thus, Gonzalo will now be able to combine the Web.com Tour with the European Tour. Although he’s made it clear that his priority is the Web.com, the Spanish golfer will also dabble in the European Tour, where he’ll be able to pencil in a good amount of tournaments, mainly those of which he’s won. Remember that Fernándo-Castaño has none other than seven wins under his belt in the European Tour.
