Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-1) did not make the second cut of the Wyndham Championship after shooting a 72 in the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensborough. Thus, the Spanish golfer will no longer be able to maintain the rights to play in the PGA Tour through this tournament, although in reality it was going to be a complicated task anyway, seeing as how he needed to finish in first or second place to make it count.
Once again, just like on Thursday and Friday, Fernández Castaño had a great performance on the first nine, with a partial score of two under par going into the 11th hole, when things took a turn for the worse with four bogeys, almost consecutive, which left him out of the second cut by just one shot.
The Madrid native is now moving forward, shifting focus to the Web.com Tour Finals, in which he will be able to earn a spot in the PGA Tour for next season, just as he did last year. The first tournament of the Finals is just around the corner, the National Children’s Championship, held on August 31st on the Scarlet course at the Ohio State University Golf Club (Columbus, Ohio). A tough course on which Gonzalo played very well last year, finishing in the top 25.
