Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (+3) has finished out his participation in the RBC Heritage with the worst round of the week at the Harbour Town Golf Links (Hilton Head, South Carolina), a 75, four more in one day, which was reflected in the rankings.
The Spanish golfer just couldn't seem to balance out the game, to the point of finding himself in a strange and irritating paradox.
Irritating for him, of course. And it's that on the first nine holes, he went up against the barbed wire fencing with grace and ease, managing this stretch with a partial PAR after having caught only one fairway. Just one! He wasn't able to catch regulation green on the two par 3s either (holes 4 and 7), but he pushed forward and recovered nicely by sinking both putts from a meter and a half away.
On the back nine, however, he lost sight of the progress just when he started to straighten out his game off the tee. He shot three bogeys, one after another (holes 11, 12 and 13), the second shot from the fairway, for example, feeling the pressure from having to make up for lost ground quickly. He finished out the round with two great options to make a birdie (holes 14 and 17, from two meters and a half and one meter and a half, respectively), but the putts just didn't want to land in the hole.
Matt Kuchar took the victory, ending with a one-shot advantage over Luke Donald for an incredible outcome. The US golfer landed a birdie from the bunker on hole 18 to lock down a sensational 64.
