Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño (-1) signed the third best card today, Saturday, at the RBC Heritage, and moved up an astounding 36 places, positioning himself under par, in 22nd place.
Magnificent play by the Madrid native, who locked down a 67, his second best performance of the year in the US, leaving him with the possibility of making top ten, or even higher. Second place, for example, is only five shots away, although it's true that there are a lot of players in between.
Gonzalo has improved his game significantly in this third round. His irons are much more precise, and he was able to take advantage of his options, and make level-headed decisions on the greens...and sometimes from the outside, like the eagle on hole 5, sinking an incredible approach from the rough, about 35 meters out. The rest was made up of four birdies, on the 15th landing a putt from more than 10 meters away, and two bogeys, both after errors off the tee.
Luke Donald leads the tournament (-8) with a two-shot advantage over John Huh, and three over a considerable number of players: Charl Schwartzel, Nicholas Thompson, Jim Furyk and Ben Martin.
