Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-8) finished in ninth place in the Rust Oleum Championship, after shooting a 70 in the last round, which allowed him to move up twelve spots in the rankings.
The Spanish golfer gained back most of the confidence he’d lost on Saturday in his long game (he caught 14 regulation greens), although he finished off the round with two bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes. A bitter end to an excellent week, the Madrid native’s best week in the Web.com Tour to date this year, allowing for a much deserved breather, and it goes without saying, his possibilities for the second half of the season are through the roof, which is just now beginning.
Gonzalo moved up almost thirty places in the rankings (he went from 95º to 66º), which means he’s that much closer to his main goal (to get into the top-25 in order to regain his rights to the PGA Tour) and definitely comes as a relief as far as the rankings go in this tour, due to the fact that the Spanish golfer did not have a secure spot in every tournament.
