Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+7) made the cut at the Valderrama Open de España being held this week at the magnificent yet demanding course in Sotogrande, in Andalusia.
The Madrid native shot a 76 and thus managed to earn a spot to play this weekend in the tournament after a survival round, where pars were like birdies on a course designed to be cutthroat and tough due to an extremely complicated west wind.
Gonzalo made it through the first nine holes of the day with an excellent partial score of PAR, a score that was worth its weight in gold. However, starting the 10th hole, it was an uphill battle. All the golfers had a tough time, and Gonzalo was no exception. He ended up with with five bogeys in nine holes, displeased, although satisfied at having made the cut on his home course and knowing that there are 36 holes ahead for the possibility of moving up in the rankings.
If there’s one thing Valderrama has demonstrated, its that in just one round of golf everything can change drastically. Gonzalo will play this Saturday at 9:50 am together with Maximilian Kieffer and Steve Webster.
