Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (+2) let loose in an amazing battle against Valderrama in the first round of the Open de España. In difficult conditions and a demanding course, the Madrid native finished off a good round. It's not the ideal start, but it's not bad as far as scores go.
Gonzalo is in 36° place on the scoreboard, four shots from the top ten and seven from the leader, French golfer Alexander Levy. His score is even better if you take into consideration the fact that Gonzalo himself admitted after the round that he wasn't comfortable with his swing. “I don't know if it was the wind in Colombia last week or something else, but the reality is that I'm not hitting the ball like I was before. I'm a little bit more uncomfortable with my swing, so I'm going to hit the driving range to see if I can work it out”, he assured after turning in his card.
Gonzalo will set out this afternoon, at 2:30 pm, Spanish time, ready to play a solid round of golf which will first allow him to make the cut and after position him at top in the fight with the leaders to take home the win.
