Gonzalo Fernández Castaño has set foot on the Servientrega Championship grounds, Web.com Tour tournament held this week at TPC Cartagena, Colombian terrain. The Spanish golfer went in as first on the waiting list after a last-minute cancellation, allowing him to participate.
A twist of fate of which Gonzalo intends to take full advantage, as he feels that his highest priority now, precisely, is to be able to have the opportunity to compete for two consecutive weeks in order to bring out the best version of his game. Last week in Brazil, despite having finished in 66º place which did not help him move up in the rankings, the Madrid native left with good vibes after having played four rounds and having racked up a considerable number of birdies.
TPC Cartagena is designed by Jack Nicklaus and it’s a medium distance course for these golfers (a bit more than 6,500 meters), characterized by its abundance of water obstacles and influenced by its habitual winds, due to the fact that it’s situated right by the ocean (there are a few holes at the end of the course that literally come right up against the beach). The forecast, in addition, is constant winds, with gusts that can get up to forty kilometers per hour throughout the four rounds.
