Gonzalo Fernández Castaño has begun his journey through the Web.com Tour with a card for 69 shots (-1) in the first round of the Panama Claro Championship, with a score of one under par, leaving him at a provisional standing of 31st place, two shots away from the top ten and four from the leaders.
The Madrid native didn’t start on a good foot in his recent tour debut. He teed off on the 10th hole and got a double bogey. But it turned out to be just a fluke, it didn’t weigh him down and he managed to start fresh on the 11th. On the following seventeen holes, the Spanish golfer came out with three under par, with five birdies and just two bogeys, an incredible reaction to the situation on his part, rising to the occasion, which lead him to the top of the line.
Gonzalo will play in the second round this Friday starting at 11:40 am, local time, 5:40 pm in Spain. The leaders of the tournament are John Merrick and Martin Flores, both with a -5. The first round was suspended due to lack of light with eight golfers still out on the course.
