Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño managed to end the Arnold Palmer Invitational with a good taste in his mouth.
Another powerful Sunday for the Madrid native, and another notch on his belt as far as making the winning lists and the FedEX points.
Gonzalo finished with a 70 the last day at Bay Hill, working his way up a whopping 24 positions, ending up 35th place, the same position he locked down at the Northern Trust Open.
He polished off 5 birdies, one bogey and one painful double bogey on hole 7, while he was putting to sink the ball from less than three meters away, and ended up with 3-putts. On another note, the grand finale of the tournament was much more positive, with three birdies on the last six holes, leaving fans stunned by his incredible shot from the fairway, the same stunt he pulled off at the Honda and the Cadillac Championship.
A nice aftertaste in a tournament with a couple great rounds, improving day by day.
We're talking about Sundays for Gonzalo, truly something. That's where his numbers are at. With an average of below 70 in the last round, he's come up 67 positions on the last day of the last four tournaments. Another step forward toward his goal of maintaining the PGA Tour card.
Gonzalo wound up with a -1, 12 shots away from the winner, Matt Every, for his first victory of the PGA Tour, who will also be playing alongside Fernández-Castaño in the Masters.
The next big date for the Madrid native will be the EurAsia Cup in Malaysia, where he'll be defending his European roots.
