Gonzalo Fernández Castaño will begin his short but interesting run in the PGA Tour this week, competing in two consecutive tournaments in the big leagues, starting with the Sanderson Farms Championship and the OHL Classic at Mayakoba the following week, for those who have been granted access by invitation.
To start, the Madrid native has little to lose at the Country Club of Jackson (Jackson, Mississippi). Once he finally comes to terms with playing in the Web.com starting in January 2016, the Sanderson Farms appears along his journey as an excellent opportunity, but without the added pressure from his final weeks of competition. He has, on the other hand, much to gain by a good performance, to the point where he could even make his way back to the PGA Tour with a victory. In fact, lots of first-time wins for golfers in the American tour have been granted in this tournament throughout the past years, among these distinguished golfers, Luke Donald (2002).
Gonzalo has never played on this course, although he has already realized that it’s vital to leverage and take advantage of the par 5s, even more so when considering the fact that on other types of courses, there are less opportunities on the rest of the holes.
