Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño had a hard time in the third round of the Small Business Connection Championship, second part of the Web.com Tour Finals held at River Run in North Carolina. The Spanish golfer played at par (73 shots) and left a few options open along the way.
Gonzalo started the round off well, with two birdies on the first two holes. He was face to face with the top positions early on, even to the point at which he was a candidate for the victory. However, starting at the 3rd hole, he began shooting pars and ended with a bad finale, with three bogeys on the last five holes, two of which were on the 17th and 18th, which made him lose a lot of traction in the rankings. The Madrid native now stands in 29th place.
The good news is that the rankings are very tight, which means that Gonzalo still has a lot of room to work with. So much so, in fact, that the top ten is just four shots away, a significant lead, but doable with a solid final round.
Gonzalo will go out to play today starting at 2:50 p.m., Spanish time, together with Michael Putnam and Nicholas Lindheim.
