Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño shot a 69 in the first round of the Small Business Connection at River Run, second part of the Web.com Tour finals held in North Carolina.
Great way to set the stage for the Madrid native, who has already managed to make his way to the top of the tournament. He’s in 18th place on the scoreboard, two shots away from the top ten and six from leader, Brett Stegmaier.
Gonzalo started the tournament off strong. He teed off on the 10th and landed birdies on his first two holes. He made another birdie on the 14th, which means that in less than five holes played, he was already 3 under par. From there, he was able to swim and stay afloat, even though his long game wasn’t as fine-tuned as it has been on other occasions. The Spanish golfer caught seven fairways and eleven greens.
Gonzalo will go out to play in the first game of the day today, once again with Tim Herron and Tag Ridings, starting at 1:30 pm, Spanish time. It’s supposed to be another day of perfect playing conditions, sunny day, no rain, no wind. A good opportunity to come out with a great score.
