Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño had a bad ending to a good week at the Hotel Fitness Championship. The Spanish golfer shot a 75 in the last round on the Sycamore Hills GC in Fort Wayne.
Gonzalo’s round was fairly controlled until the last stretch. He got to the 14th hole of the course with a score of one under par for the day, fighting to get into the top 20 of the tournament, not a bad score on the first stop of the Web.com Tour Finals series. However, a short circuit in the last stretch, with four bogeys in five holes, caused him to go down many spots in the rankings.
Finally, the Spanish golfer finished with a total of three under par, in 52º place. Not a bad score, although there is the inevitable bad aftertaste seeing as how he was close to going up much more in the rankings.
In any case, there are still three tournaments left to play and much more to accomplish. Any time there’s a possibility to end up in the top 5 in any one of the four tournaments that make up the finals will mean the direct acquisition of the card. Last year it took around 35.000 euros to maintain it. Gonzalo gathered around ten percent of what he needs in Indiana. Next stop of the finals circuit will be this week at the Small Business Collection Championship, held in North Carolina.
