Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño will begin the Web.com Tour finals this Thursday, a demanding and selective process where the Madrid native will attempt to recover the rights to play in the PGA Tour. It’s not an easy task, quite the opposite in fact. The level in each one of the four tests that this mini-tour is composed of is incredibly high, in the presence of numerous American Tour winners, and a few major winners, such as Lucas Glover.
Gonzalo’s objective is to finish among the top 25 in this round of four tournaments. That’s how he’ll win back the card. The complicated mission will commence in Indiana, on Jack Nicklaus’s Sycamore Hills course. The Hotel Fitness Championship is held there, a tournament which, for example, Trevor Immelman won two years ago, winner of the Masters at Augusta. It just goes to show that the PGA Tour doesn’t tie the knot with anyone.
Gonzalo will share his turn to play with Argentinian golfer, Jorge Fernández-Valdés and American golfer, Mark Hubbard. They will go out to play starting at 1:24 pm, local time, 7:24 pm in Spain. The Madrid native went directly from Dallas to Indiana, where he has been practicing with his trainers, Randy Smith and Dave Stockton. Gonzalo has been working especially on his shots from 140 yards out and around the green.
