Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño finished off an excellent third round at the Wyndham Championship with a card for 67 shots and will fight to the very end to maintain his right to play in the PGA Tour. There’s nothing and no one that can stand in his way now. After a low-key, dismal season where it seemed as though nothing was going right, the Spanish golfer created options to be able to continue in the American tour up until the very last day. A true soldier.
It won’t be easy, far from it, but not impossible either. Gonzalo is fairly far down in the rankings, 27º place, but not as far in terms of shots, seven with respect to the leader and five from second place. It’s important to remember that he can come in second tied with a maximum of two other players in order to continue in the PGA Tour without having to resort to other options.
It’s a complicated mission. It always was. But his will and desire are intact and his game is at a great turning point. Just yesterday he was close to finishing with an extremely low round, and who knows what he’s got up his sleeve for the finale. Shooting a 62, like Jonas Blixt did, his golf partner from yesterday, would propel him to the top of the rankings. Nothing is impossible, no matter how difficult it may seem.
Gonzalo will go out to play starting at 5:45 pm, Spanish Peninsular time, together with George McNeill.
