Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño began his participation in the Wyndham Championship with a card for 66 shots, a good start on the Sedgefield Country Club course in Greensboro, North Carolina. A great way to set the stage, leaving the Spanish golfer in twentieth place, just two shots from the top ten and four from the leading position, shared by Eric Compton, William McGirt and Tom Hoge.
Gonzalo had a really solid round. He made four birdies and not one bogey. He caught eleven fairways and fifteen greens. He didn’t get into any difficult situations and took advantage of his options, although he did leave behind one good opportunity for birdie on his third hole of the day.
Gonzalo will continue to fight for the grand objective of the season: to maintain the card. It’s the last opportunity and the Madrid native needs to come in first or second, tied with a maximum of two other players. The goal is still within reach after the first 18 holes.
Gonzalo will play starting at 7:40 pm together with Roberto Castro and Bo Van Pelt.
