Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño finished out the Barracuda Championship with a finale just as exciting as it was strange. He made three consecutive birdies from the 13th to the 15th and finished with two bogeys and a double bogey from the 16th to the 18th. Not one par on the last six holes; five points for the day, 29 in total. The Spanish golfer ended up in 29º place after having flirted with the top ten for a good part of the tournament.
It was another good week for Gonzalo, generally speaking, even though he didn’t manage to close out the tournament with the points necessary for the FedEX Cup. These results leave him in practically the same position he was in before. Thus, the Madrid native’s only options are to win or to come in second (without tying) in the Wyndham Championship next week in order to maintain the PGA Tour card. In the event this does not happen, he’ll still have one last opportunity. That will be at the Web.com Tour Finals, where the top 75 golfers of the silver division of the American tour go head-to-head, those in 126º place to 175º place.
Gonzalo will now have a one week break to polish off certain aspects of his game and, above all, to come back fresh with his batteries fully charged for the last shot at the Wyndham.
