Gonzalo Fernández Castaño (-2) shot a 68 in the first round of the Travelers Championship, situating him comfortably in the mid portion of the rankings, far from leader Bubba Watson (-8), but just three shots away from the top ten.
Gonzalo was the star of a solid round of golf with two birdies and not a single bogey on his card. It was a day filled with patience, where the Madrid native was able to complete a stretch of 14 holes in a row for par until he reached the 15th in which he made his first birdie, and on the 17th hole, the second.
Gonzalo was especially on point with the shots to the greens, having caught more than eighty percent of the greens, a statistic that clearly shows that his game is becoming more and more consistent.
Today he’ll play in the morning session at TPC River Highlands, with the objective of making the cut and fighting to move up in the rankings over the weekend.
