Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño did not make the cut in the FedEX St. Jude Classic. A bad start in the second round caused an upset and didn’t leave many options for the Madrid native to continue to play through the weekend.
The beginning was already a bad omen of what was to come. His first shot off the tee on the 1st hole went straight to the water and around the 6th hole he had already racked up a five over par for the day on his card. Too heavy of a burden to bare.
Gonzalo was able to finish, at least, with a good taste in his mouth, making three birdies on the last eight holes of TPC Southwind, but the cut was already too far out of reach. In the end, he turned in a card for 73 shots for a total of +4, three shots away from the prize.
Gonzalo will take a week-long break now coinciding with the US Open and will return to compete in the Travelers Championship, within two weeks at TPC River Highlands, Connecticut.
