Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño has completed what was his best tournament of the season, the AT&T Byron Nelson. An incredible round, having shot a 63, the lowest in the history of his career in the PGA Tour, which allowed him to move up high in the rankings, positioning him in sixteenth place. It’s his best final score of the year. A big step toward the main goal of maintaining the American tour card.
Fernández Castaño proved his steadfast determination from start to finish, especially on the last nine holes. That’s when he unleashed the best version of his game, with six birdies and a double bogey. A good demonstration of Gonzalo’s inspiration yesterday afternoon is that despite having made a double bogey on the 8th hole, his second-to-last hole of the day, he finished with a birdie on the 9th.
The Madrid native is confident that this is just the beginning of a good thing, a foundation with which he can build up a good stretch that will help assure his continuation in the US. The next event will be the Memorial Tournament, on the Muirfield Village course in Dublin, Ohio.
