Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño finished the first round of the AT&T Byron Nelson with a par, PGA Tour tournament held at TPC Four Seasons in Irving, Texas. The Madrid native had a solid round of golf, with three birdies and three pars, which is grounds for making the cut, provisionally established at par.
Gonzalo worked very hard throughout the round, with lots of action in the beginning, starting off with a birdie on the 1st hole followed by two bogeys in a row on the 2nd and 3rd. From there, he went on to play twelve holes that were relatively quiet. He got eleven pars and a birdie on a par 5 on the 7th. He finished again with a bogey and a birdie to end up at a truce with the course.
Things are looking good for Gonzalo, who has improved his performance compared to other tournaments on the greens. His long game was somewhat inconsistent, a struggle, but he managed to save face. The Spanish golfer will go out to play today with a minimum three-hour delay, due to suspended play because of bad weather. That being said, it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to finish the second round today.
