Gonzalo Fernández Castaño’s participation in THE PLAYERS Championship will commence this Thursday, star tournament of the PGA Tour known off the records as the fifth major. It will be the Spanish golfer’s third appearance at this event held at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, in Florida.
Gonzalo will be returning to competition after a one week break coinciding with the WGC Cadillac Match Play. The Madrid native’s objective is to recover those good vibes he found in Houston, which didn’t resurface as he had hoped in the last tournament in Louisiana. He’s been working very hard this week in order to make it happen.
In the last two tournaments of THE PLAYERS, Gonzalo didn’t make the cut in 2013 and ended up in 38º last season, with an incredible initial 67-shot round which put him among the top places in the rankings. Thus, the memory of the course isn’t bad at all.
Gonzalo will play starting at 3.15 pm, Spanish Peninsular time, alongside Jerry Kelly and Ricky Barnes. If there were ever a good tournament to start turning the tables on a season that hasn’t been going too well, it’s this one, THE PLAYERS.
