Gonzalo Fernández Castaño started the Zurich Classic of New Orleans off with a round of 75 shots. The Madrid native got one birdie and four bogeys, and will now need a really low round today in order to make the cut at the TPC Louisiana.
Gonzalo went by the books this Thursday according to the saying that goes: when it rains, it pours. He went out to play when the sky was looking its worst in Avondale. So much so that around one hour in, play was suspended for torrential rain. The start was already complicated, with the additional factor that the results from the morning were really good. In other words, he started his game off knowing that he needed lots of birdies and he found himself in the midst of a rough panorama to have to carry out the mission.
When play was suspended, Gonzalo had already made two bogeys in just five holes. When he returned to play he made a birdie, but fell right back after into a bogey, and one more in the following nine holes. The tournament is now an uphill battle, although the Spanish golfer has not given up. He needs a low round to make the cut, provisionally situated at -2.
