It wasn't a great week for Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño at the WGC Cadillac Championship, the second stop of the World Golf Championship. Held on the newly renovated Blue Monster at the Doral.
The Madrid native finished the tournament in 54th place after handing in three cards for a total of 77 shots, and a final total on Sunday of 70, not bad, yet insufficient set against the expectations Gonzalo had previously set for himself.
It was a tough week, with a new course which, further complicated by bad weather conditions on Thursday and Friday, turned into an incredibly trying challenge for all players involved. Only three golfers managed to finish below par, and more than three-hundred balls ended up in the water.
In any case, Fernández-Castaño's game, especially on the greens (with Dave Stockton Jr. On Tuesday) is at a good point in his game, and the results can come from one week to the next. “A good way to end, and in better spirits, although I expected more. It was a disappointing week, but it's time to move forward and prepare for the Bay Hill, EurAsia Cup and the Masters, some of the most important moments of the year”, said the Madrid native.
Patrick Reed took the victory in the tournament to win by one shot over Jamie Donaldson and Bubba Watson.
