Gonzalo Fernandez Castaño (-7) continues to show signs of recovery in the Shell Houston Open. There have now been three consecutive rounds under par, after the 71 on Saturday.
To be exact, the irregularity or lack of consistency was the main part of the problem for the Spanish golfer this season, so his performance in the Golf Club of Houston should be taken as a clear sign of improvement, bearing in mind that he came off from missing the cut the last three tournaments in a row and that this year up until now he hadn't managed to pull off three consecutive scores under par.
Gonzalo has maintained a very positive attitude on the course, coming out pretty clean from delicate situations: he recovered from a bogey on the 5th hole, after a penalty drop, missing the shot to green, and an amazing par on the 6th, with a well-calculated putt from more than four meters away. The golden touch came on the 17th, were he sank the ball from outside the green, more than 25 meters out.
This Sunday, to top it all off, he has the luxury of playing the definitive round together with Phil Mickelson (-8), although both golfers will start the day off seven shots away from leader, Jordan Spieth.
